Belfast Burlesque

Teaching burlesque workshops in Belfast are always a blast, and this time was no exception.  Hosted by the lovely Vera Fontaine, I had the pleasure of teaching a group of Belfast burlesquers how to flutter their feathers in two burlesque fan dance workshops.  Vera’s workshops were open to both her existing students and those who fancied learning how to ‘hide and reveal’ burlesque-style using feather fan dance techniques.  The Academy of Burlesque & Cabaret have been teaching burlesque and cabaret fan dance workshops since 2007 with a range of classes to suit beginners, professionals and those hen parties who want  to a spend their hen weekend learning how to ruffle some feathers.  The Belfast burlesquers were given a taster of the full spectrum of fan dance styles, from retro burlesque to classic cabaret using traditional bump ‘n’ grind and showgirl inspired music.  Starting with the basics of feather fan dance, we worked towards creating a classic burlesque bump ‘n’ grind style number and finished with a riotous classic Broadway showgirl style circle to the strains of Barry  Manilow’s Copacabana – well, everyone has to try that one at least once!  And I am looking forward to returning to Belfast with another set of burlesque workshops in the near future…
