Showgirls and Cancan Troupe, Glasgow

Last Friday night (27 July) Glasgow got a little touch of Las Vegas magic, courtsey of the Merchants of Magic Cabaret at the Fruitmaket.  Part of the Merchant City Festival, the show, curated by Judith Mclay, brought together Chris De Rosa, one of the UK’s foremost illusionist, traditional magician the Great Aziz, high-energy dance duo the Kitsch Kats, our French Fling cancan and showgirl troupe and burlesque by our very own Gypsy Charms.

Starting the show with a classic showgirl number to a Vegas style medley were our gorgeous showgirls – and with feathers, sequins and smiles, they set the standard for the evening that showcased some jaw-dropping talent.  The Art of Illusion with Chris De Rosa rendered the audience speechless as he mesmerised the audience with a series of illusions that defied gravity and belief.  Aziz, a cabaret regular was on top form with a home crowd, with some time-honoured tricks up his sleeve.  The Kitsch Kats, as usual, gave the audience some fancy footwork and a giggle or two with their innovative choreography.

Gypsy provided the audience with some classic American burlesque striptease with her White Nights act, and proceeded to use our glamourous Glasgow showgirls to hide and reveal her in a stylish fan dance – adding (as usual) her own cheeky twist.  The closing act, which had the audience whooping was the French Fling can can.  From high kicks and cartwheels to back-flips and bloomers, our Glasgow cancan troupe wowed the audience.

It was billed as one of Scotland’s top cabaret nights and we are very proud to have been part of it.
